Team Ministry is the idea that every member of God's church does the work of ministry in some way. We work as a team to reap the harvest, filling in for one's weakness, building off another's strength...

That is the picture God has always desired for His church, but often we have let it slide and fallen into the Moses syndrome.

If you were to look back in Exodus 18, you would find the story!

God had appointed Moses as judge over the people. And the Bible tells us that Moses stood as judge from morning till evening, he had a lot to do. Jethro responds. "What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you, you cannot handle it alone." So Jethro shares with Moses a way appoint other reliable people to sit as judges over the small matters, and take care of them. Jethro said, "If you do this and God so commands , you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied."

That contagious virus known as the Moses syndrome has weakened the body of believers and caused ill-health throughout the history of God's church. It began in the second century with the rise of bishops (head elders) who were selected to protect pure doctrine and put down rebellions. It spread further into the body of Christ with the development of hierarchy positions in the church. And it became a full-blown plague the minute someone attached the title clergy to those who did the ministry, and laity to those who watched and received the ministry.

Fortunately the serum for the Moses syndrome has been rediscovered. Modeled after the wisdom of Jethro and the early Apostles who passed the task of daily distribution of the bread along to other servants so they could give their time to ministry of the Word and prayer.
