Creation Museum Trip

On Saturday July 28th, our church organized a trip to the Answers in Genesis (AIG) Creation Museum near Cincinnati OH. There were 21 in our group; we left the church building at 7:00 am in three mini-vans and one car. We got to the Creation Museum around 11:00 am and it was already packed. There was a long line outside waiting to get in. Fortunately, we had made group reservations, so we were able to bypass the long line.

First, we saw the short film "Men in White" in the Special Effects Theater. This movie chronicled the efforts of two angels to demonstrate the truth of the Bible to a lonely camper. The film came complete with rumbling seats and misting water, much like similar attractions at Disney's Epcot Center or Universal Studios. Next, we had a nice lunch at Noah's Cafe, then on to the main exhibits of the museum. The museum is centered around the "Seven C's of Biblical History":

    1. Creation - The six days of creation
    2. Corruption - Sin enters the world
    3. Catastrophe - Noah's Flood
    4. Confusion - The Tower of Babel
    5. Christ - Jesus comes into the world
    6. Cross - Jesus' death and resurrection
    7. Consummation - Jesus' return

In the main lobby of the museum, you are greeted by animatronics dinosaurs and children, a waterfall, and fish pond. As you enter the main hall, you travel though a canyon created when water cut through hundreds of layers of stone, much like a miniature Grand Canyon. Next is a very realistic excavation of a dinosaur skeleton with two archaeologists. One is a Christian and gives the Biblical interpretation of these dinosaur remains, the other is an evolutionist and gives his views. Next comes the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve, and their sin. We then walked through a room where the tragic consequences of sin are presented. The next room contained one of the most impressive displays, Noah and some laborers are shown working on a life-size section of the Ark. It is huge, but only represents 1/100 of the length of the real Ark. We were awed by several depictions of the global flood, and the Tower of Babel.

The final section of the museum presents the gospel message; we watched an excellent film titled "The Last Adam". Our last two stops were the Dinosaur Den which featured several life size sculpted dinosaur models, and the Dragon Hall Bookstore. The museum is quite large with room after room of very professional and informative displays covering two floors. The Creation Museum does an outstanding job of showing that real science supports the Bible's record of history. The Bible really can be trusted, from the very first verse!

The only down side to the trip was the large crowds. The Creation Museum has turned out to be much more popular than AIG ever dreamed! This was an inconvenience for us, but it is great news for the spread of God's Word. If you missed this trip, we are planning another one for late fall/winter.

Those going on the trip were: Bryant and Benn Sparks, Larry and Brenda Burch, Lester and Pat Morrison, Dorothy Shertzer, Don Phillips, Cheryl Wright, Brent and Susan Waggoner, John Bennett, Roger and Liz Tharp, Mike and Becky Smith, Jessica Anderson, Brad and Kelly Zimmerly, and Jim and Debbie Stahl.
