Our Purpose Statement
To Glorify God Linton First Christian Church Will:
- Seek the Lost
- Encourage Spiritual Growth
- Be a Christian Influence in the Community
What We Believe
This Christian Church:
- Believes in the Bible as the inspired word
of God, and endeavors to follow the faith
and doctrine of the church as revealed in
the New Testament,
- Accepts Christ as the Divine Son of God,
Head of the Church and Lord of our lives,
- Seeks fellowship with all who believe in
Jesus as the Son of God and are obedient to
His commands as set forth in the Scriptures.
To Become a Christian:
- Believe in Jesus the Christ – "Believe in
the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." (NIV)
Acts 16:31.
- Repent of your sins – "I tell you…unless you
repent, you will all perish." (NIV) Luke
13:3.
- Confess faith in Jesus – "Whoever
acknowledges me [Jesus] before men, I will
also acknowledge him before my Father in
heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I
will disown him before my Father in heaven."
(NIV) Matthew 10:32,33.
- Be buried with Jesus in Christian Baptism –
"We were therefore buried with him through
baptism into death in order that, just as
Christ was raised from the dead through the
glory of the Father, we too may live a new
life." (NIV) Romans 6:4.
- Receive the Holy Spirit – "And you also were
included in Christ when you heard the word
of truth, the gospel of your salvation.
Having believed, you were marked in him with
a seal, the promised Holy Spirit," (NIV)
Ephesians 1:13
We believe that God has called us in unity
for His purpose:
- To worship Him in spirit and truth,
- To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus as Lord and
Savior,
- To defend the faith and grow in His Word,
- To love God and one another as Jesus
commanded.
Our Congregation
The congregation of Linton First Christian
Church represents a broad cross-section of
the community both socioeconomically and in
age distribution. Our intent and desire, as a church, is to
present the gospel to all people, anywhere and everywhere
God leads us to do so. The occupations held by many of members are quite
varied. Some members are coal miners, and
health care providers, others are government (state and
federal) employees, and business owners, while yet others are retail clerks,
farmers, and bankers, etc.
Most of our members live in or near Linton, but
many come from the surrounding communities,
driving several miles to attend services and
activities. Recently we have noticed that
some of our newer members come from even further away.
We hope that this indicates that our
circle of influence for Christ is expanding.
Additionally, our members come from diverse church
settings. Most, of course, are from a Christian Church/Church of Christ upbringing,
however, many come from Baptist, Catholic, Assembly of God, and Presbyterian
roots (to name a few).
Yet in spite of our varied backgrounds, we believe that Jesus
is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and we are united in a common faith in the Gospel of
Jesus and of our salvation through Him. Membership at Linton First Christian Church is
based upon the scriptural acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior.
